Fishtown Daily by Jaime Alvarez

Issue 113

Fishtown Daily began as an online self given assignment when I was between larger projects or jobs. I would take out my camera when I would take my dog for a walk and photograph Fishtown, the neighborhood in Philadelphia where I live. At the beginning I made this project strictly about Fishtown, taken with my phone or camera, and post them on to Instagram with the #FishtownDaily.  As the years passed, I opened the series to other areas outside of Fishtown, and now it has become the title of may be considered my photoblog. Fishtown Daily is now a zine that while there is a focus on my work, I have opened it up to other local emerging photographers.

The edits that I make for the zine take the viewer from standard views of the houses around Fishtown, and Philadelphia, to up close with details of the streets and what is left on the street.  I'm hoping to present a dichotomy of beauty and ugliness, life and death, as a reflection of my own self and the neighborhood I have decided to live in.
