Of Heaven and Earth by David Shannon-Lier
For the past three years I have been traveling North America making carefully constructed photographs of the sun and moon. he desire to make these photographs stems from several—sometimes complimentary, sometimes contradictory—impulses. It comes from notions of belonging to the land and the land belonging to me, from the allure of the single point perspective of photography, from the importance of a few hours in a very specific place, in contrast with the incomprehensible scale of time and space itself. Finally they stem from a keen sense of my own mortality alongside the desire to be known, to make one’s mark so to speak.
David Shannon-Lier is currently on the road.
