Along the St-Maurice River by Alexi Hobbs

Issue 36

This project aims to explore and investigate rural Quebec as a city-dwelling outsider by photographing people and places along the St-Maurice River and attemps to show a slice of rural Quebec's current cultural landscape.Located in central Quebec, midway between Québec and Montréal and slicing Trois-Rivières right down the middle, the St-Maurice River is of interest because, forsaken by younger generations who've fled for the cities, it is rife with nostalgic idiosyncrasies of abandonment. Contrasting this vacated feeling is the teeming presence of industry and tourism in the shape of hydro-electric dams, logging trucks, snowmobiling, canoeing and dog-sledding foreigners and cityfolk.
