Enchanted Awe by Sarah Moore

Issue 55

I moved to New Mexico for the space.

Since my first day on Western soil, I couldn't deny my attraction to the Land of Enchantment. The light, the vastness, the eeriness, the beauty: yes, the Southwest had me.

Yet, while New Mexico is definitely enchanting, it is also awe-inspiring. It can fill one with the dread that comes with awe, because even wonder can be frightening. Even beauty can be sad, and even space can be painful.

If I've learned anything in my time in New Mexico, it's that I must constantly search for moments of magic to accompany the awe. I must find moments to ease the dread and moments to explain it. I'm creating my own world of enchantment in this strange space.

Sarah Moore lives and works in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
