The APUG Show: A Group Show
I joined APUG, the Analog Photographers Users Group, in October of 2003. After making 3500+ posts, I don't recall the reason I joined. I probably had a question about processing film or what camera to buy. No matter, I stayed around.
Sean Ross, the founder of APUG, set up the site as a place to discuss traditional photographer, meaning film processing and darkroom work, and all things associated with this art form. Digital topics are not allowed and are quickly removed, so you won't find conversations about the latest digital camera or photoshop technique.
From the APUG home page: "APUG.ORG is an international community of like minded individuals devoted to traditional (non-digital) photographic processes. We are an active photographic community; our forums contain a highly detailed archive of traditional and historic photographic processes. We'd like to thank all of the photographers out there who have given us the encouragement to see this concept through."
APUG currently has over 31,000 members, and seems to be growing quite rapidly since being founded in 2002. While there, I have met quite a few members in person, made some great friends, and have even traveled to Iceland with 5 or 6 of them. It's a great group.
When I asked Sean if I could do a Fraction/APUG Group Show, he agreed without hesitation. When I posted the Call for Entries, there were over 200 photographs submitted. It was quite hard to select just 29 images with such a fine pool to choose from. Congrats to all those who have been selected.
I would highly recommend joining APUG if you are working in traditional photographic methods, whether it be silver gelatin printing, alternative processes (platinum, cyanotype, palladium, etc.) or traditional color film photography.
