I love you, man by Kurt Simonson

Issue 68

I Love You, Man is a series of portraits exploring the desire and longing for intimacy in friendships between men, a desire that most men feel, but are often afraid to express to one another in contemporary Western culture.

As with the rest of my work, I am continuing to navigate the longing to connect with others in the face of an enduring sense of disconnectedness.  The men in these photographs include some of my closest friends, some of my former students whom I have mentored, and some of my own mentors.  They are all men with whom I have shared a rich history of love and support through times of joy and mourning.  These friends testify to the possibility of such vulnerable intimacy among men as they present themselves, insecurities and all, in an exchange of trust and gratitude.
