In Dog Years by Anthony Earl Smith
These images come from a larger body of work called In Dog Years. I started making this work while I was living in a small neighborhood in Atlanta called Cabbagetown, that borders one of the oldest cemeteries in Georgia.
The neighborhood has a rich history of its own, but I wanted to focus on creating a dialogue between the young adults living there and the environment surround them. The work is organized much like a journal mixing portraits, places, objects and found photos from the neighborhood.
I am interested in the vague in-between and instability of emerging adulthood. The work explores concepts surrounding permanence and impermanence as it relates to the landscape and the temporary nature of youth itself.
