Primordial Mist by Victoria Ryan

Issue 5

I was born into an age of innocence; our green planet was a constant. We believed that the air was healthy and the water clean. Today our reality is somewhat different. We have numerous questions and few facts. Our world is undergoing changes, many which are cause for great concern. Gathering support to correct our environmental situation has been slow at best. Will we have the global determination, compassion for each other, and the scientific knowledge to correct the problems that confront us? I would love to possess the faith and optimism that the right path will be chosen, but at the moment I fear that events could go either way.

"Primordial Mist," is a body of work in which I fantasize about a pure, undamaged, landscape. I travel back to a time when we respected and feared the land in which we inhabited. We recognized that it controlled our destiny and we walked gently upon it. Visions of this organic world are minimal at best in our daily lives where concrete, box stores, and traffic congestion rule the day. I keep my eyes alert to those pure, unspoiled vignettes, which contain untamed beauty, mystery and that edge of apprehension. I view these images as reminders of what is at stake for all of us and the scope of what we can lose if we choose to ignore the destruction we continue to inflict on our planet.
