Deconstruction by Melanie McWhorter

Issue 15

For years, I have been working on two projects: Nuclear Family Reaction, originally a project dealing with my transition into motherhood, and Highway 14 about my brief travels up and down a short stretch of road otherwise known at the Turquoise Trail. In examining why I have pursued these projects, I recall the expression that some photo teacher said that has come in handy at this time in my life, "photograph what you know", or was it, "photograph what is around you". The second one seems more appropriate as I was using both projects to explore and get to know what was around me and to help adjust to my life in New Mexico both mentally and physically. These images that I have selected to show in Fraction are a mixture of black and white work from both series.
