Faces of Fraction

As someone who spends a lot of time working to cultivate new collectors of photography, I know that portraits are a tough sell. Most people do not want to hang a photograph of someone they don’t know on their wall. A painting maybe, but not a photograph. It’s too real. But that is exactly what I love about photographic portraits.
Photography can capture a fleeting emotion behind the eyes or a brief moment of vulnerability better than any other medium and even better than we could perceive it in person. Photographic portraits are real, and they can be searing, humorous, forlorn, bold, frightening. . . because these are people, and people are all of these things. I don’t think there is anything more beautiful.
Fraction is a treasure-trove of amazing images, and culling through six years of portfolios to find the portraits in this exhibition was exhilarating. I decided to use just one parameter - I simply selected the portraits that stopped me in my tracks. You will see a lot of women and a lot of intensity, and hopefully you will feel something from each and every photograph. Something real.
